Church as it could be

from Jake, 04 Jan 2009 8 comments

Perhaps I should say, "church as it will be." This morning, as I was tying my tie for my Sunday frock and April and I looked on into the mirror, I said, "If we had a baby, we'd have to get up an hour earlier." And here is the scenario we postulated:

- Wake up baby
- Change baby
- Feed baby
- Bathe baby
- Baby poohs in the bath
- Change bath
- Clean baby
- Clothe baby
- Put down baby
- Parent showers
- Other parent showers
- Feed baby
- Burp baby
- Baby barfs
- Change baby clothes
- Get baby in car seat
- Drive to church
- Unload baby
- Find a seat
- Baby poohs
- Change baby
- Return to meeting only to discover Sunday school has already started

April was quick to point out that, "With that kind of schedule, you'd need to get up 2 hours earlier." Perhaps we just will. Then all this talk about me loving our new 9am church schedule will quickly change in favor of 11am.

No Dilemma Here

from Jake, 02 Jan 2009 0 comments

No dilemma here; it's called a cow.

But, here's a nice tidbit from Wikipedia, Craig's favorite reference:

'Cattle can only be used in the plural and not in the singular: it is a plurale tantum. Thus one may refer to "three cattle" or "some cattle", but not "one cattle". There is no universally used singular equivalent in modern English to "cattle", other than the gender and age-specific terms such as cow, bull, steer and heifer. Strictly speaking, the singular noun for the domestic bovine was "ox", however, "ox" today is rarely used in this general sense. An ox today generally denotes a draft beast, most commonly a castrated male (but is not to be confused with the unrelated wild musk ox).'

Oh, it gets better, read on...

Here's the latest floor plan for a house that we're interested in moving to. This is my rough sketch:

Bamboo Style

It took me a while, but I finally got my new little toy, a Wacom Bamboo Fun, working on VirtualBox running on top of Ubuntu. Woop dee doo. Here's a smattering of some scribblings that I've popped out. It's fun to have instant access to color, many mediums, and all the flexibility of the digital world in art. Sweetness. Maybe we'll use the tree for our Christmas card next year. :)

Merry Christmas!

LucidChart.com

My good friend, Ben Dilts, has created an awesome website at LucidChart.com. It is a fully featured online flow chart creator. It's actually quite amazing the amount of solid features that he's packed into the site. You can create flow charts easily and intuitively in an environment as rich as a regular desktop app. There are great collaboration tools rivaling Google Doc environment quality. Go check it out! It's even better than Microsoft Visio -- it's free!

Very 'Lil Drummer Boy

The drums are beating ever closer. Can he hear the music or something? Stinka'! We've been jammin' on the road for the past 3 weeks. Well, as jammin' as you can get with sketchy radio reception in the shadow of the everlasting hills.

The Real Gatorade

Haha, this is nuts. The AP reports on the latest system delivered to the International Space Station this week...

"After several days without luck, astronauts finally ran a successful test on equipment that turns urine into drinking water — a necessity for supporting the international space station's crew, which will soon double."
