Flowers in Late Summer

April is a flower that blooms all year long. But, how much more beautiful she seems to get in late summer.

Double Take: Is it Dan or Tobias?

from Jake, 24 Aug 2008 3 comments

April and I rented Persuasion a couple weeks ago -- finally, after April had been waiting in a virtual line as patron #67 who wanted to check it out from the library. We watched it (April actually watched it another time while I was at work. Movies are apparently good laundry folding companions.) Friday night and found ourselves comparing the likeness of one of the actors (the nefarious William Elliot, played by Tobias Menzies) to my cousin-in-law, Dan.

Monkey Island Movie?

from Jake, 21 Aug 2008 0 comments

Yes, I had heard Ron Gilbert, the game designer behind Monkey Island, once compare the Pirates of the Caribbean to the game that he had created many years before, The Secret of Monkey Island. To be sure, there are amazing similarities. Who knows!

Here are some of Ron's comments:

Slipin' Slide Summer

from April & Jake, 19 Aug 2008 4 comments

The end of the summer is now! Bring on the snow. Ok, maybe not yet. We need to camp a few times before then. We tried to cram in the most we could into our hot summer together. And as a good round off (Olympic allusion) to one of the 4 best seasons of the year, we took a road trip to Idaho for the weekend. Beautiful Idaho was there, winning her way to fame (5th grade allusion).

We love each other and doing this podcast. Any of you that want to contribute a higher-quality mic, I'll furnish you with shipping reimbursement and a valid street address (Don't trust the one on the Whoop Club website).

Summer 2007

April and I, and my mom and Marie, went on a little Colorado-flavored excursion to witness the grand peaks and blanketing trees. It was beautiful fun, quite relaxing, and unique. The activity is just incident to the company.

Full Throttle

from Jake, 16 Aug 2008 0 comments

Full Throttle is an awesome adventure game from LucasArts, from back when LucasArts actually made fun games and adventure games were easily found on store shelves. These days, these classics need a little ScummVM goodness to run, but it's still fun to relive the glory days of VGA raster art. I love the artwork from this game. It's very cinematic in its play are there is plenty of eye candy. Some of these picts will count as game spoilers.

Wiping World Records

I don't know if any of you caught this, but the Men's 400m Free Relay at the Beijing 2008 Olympics was amazing. I didn't see it live, but I sure heard about it the next day.

Catch it here. That link requires Silverlight (blasted Ms/Nbc mix).

If you want a good, reliable flash link, that's here, although the quality isn't as good because it's a video of someone's TV set. :) haha.

'Better take a look. Not only are you supporting the good 'ol USA, but helping NBC win back their $900 mil.

Summer 2007.

I had a great time with April, Alinda, Paul, LeDawn, and others as we spent the weekend partying in Provo. Walkin' on sunshine! :0)

Now You See Us

It was the summer of '07... Runners take your marks! And with a bang, we were out of the tracks, propelling ourselves through BYU campus, accosting even the most innocent-looking of victims in our quest to claim the glorious title of winners of the photo scavenger hunt!

Island Park with the Shelleys

from Jake, 12 Aug 2008 0 comments

Up North we ventured over the surly rim of the Yellowstone caldera. Such excitement was to befall us, the likes of which we never did suppose. The air was free, flowing warmly; the water clear, babbling quietly; the trees towering, swaying magnificently; the flowers arrayed in splendor, spinning floridly. Obviously, the setting was ripe for a weekend to remember. The Shelley's were awesome, even beyond high expectation. No wonder April is as amazing as I continue to discover she is.
